I was influenced. I fell victim to scrolling Pinterest and seeing all those beautiful mahjong tables, and it just seemed like such an oh-so-lovely hobby for the eye. And that’s precisely how I first fell in love with mahjong: its beauty!
But I quickly realized it’s not just about the beauty; it’s about slowing down, being present and the little ritual of gathering around the table that makes me enjoy it so much.
The game has officially taken over my dining room, so naturally, it had to be a sight for sore eyes. None of the mahjong sets I was shopping for had a price tag I could justify, so I decided to curate my own.
I searched every antique store within two hours of my house, hoping someone would have a set—or at least parts of one. No luck. But I did find a tiny silver dish that I immediately knew would be perfect for the dice! The rest—the tiles, mat and racks—I eventually found on Amazon, and I love how everything came together as a set that feels perfectly at home in my space.
Mahjong moments have taken over our summer. My hubs, son & I have played countless games over coffee, snacks & crisp rosé—and I have a feeling this little obsession is sticking around because we’re already weeks into fall still obsessed, and hubs is already shopping for a Holiday aesthetic mat!
I like this one, thoughts? It’s seasonal without shouting Ho Ho Ho…
