Have you ever seen Martha Stewart’s prop room? A place to shop within what you already own, displayed in a beautiful way — holidays meet tableware meets crafts. A dream, if you ask me! And I knew I could make it come true within the space I have, obviously!
You wouldn’t know it, but this is my utility room. Think: water tank, water main, electric panel, etc. so in no way a room per se, but rather the perfect space to create my version of a craft & holiday storage room, totally inspired by the queen herself — hence, The Martha Room, as we call it.
For years it stayed basic and white and useful, but where’s the fun in that? So I went on a limp, got inspired by a random (not so random!) color on Pinterest, aka Green Hydrangea, by Benjamin Moore and decided to trust my gut on this rather bold wall color.
& how delighted am I?! It is exactly the oomph a creative space like this one needed!
Like many of my house projects, the goal isn’t to redo everything, but to work with what we have. Just like my basement refresh, a little creativity went a very long way! So besides a gallon of paint, and a rug, I used what I had to completely transform this room. The main thing was organization, which my metal shelves do the hard work, but also hung some wreaths on an extra curtain rod I had, as well as window flower boxes I had lying in the garage waiting to be useful… They now serve for tapes, scissors, and random knickknacks. The table is an old twin size bed base, we just bought some iron legs and I love the size - perfect for wrapping gifts!
This room acts like the backstore of all my seasonal decor, hosting staples and vintage finds I collect, and serves no other purpose than to entertain. Between Christmas, Halloween, china collections, and some creative mess, it’s a room to put a smile on anyone’s face.
Just like the view outside of green Bubble Bath hydrangeas, being in a Green Hydrangea room puts a smile on mine!
